Yin and Yang

Two complementary forces that make up the phenomena of life. Yin - a symbol of earth, femininity, darkness, passivity, and absorption. Yang - a symbol of heaven, masculinity, light, activity, and penetration.

Star of David

Star of David, Hebrew Magen David (“Shield of David”), a Jewish symbol composed of two overlaid equilateral triangles that form a six-pointed star. The term Magen David, which in Jewish liturgy signifies God as the protector (shield) of David.

Celtic Knot

This knot is a complete loop that has no start or finish and could be said to represent eternity. Only one thread is used in the design which symbolizes how life and eternity are interconnected.

Fire

2018 - bisazza glass, Portuguese china and Italian smalti glass - 61cm x 63cm

This Chinese symbol was inspired by the principles of Feng Shui. In my search for peace, I created symbols of balance and energy in my garden. With its two lines of yang and one of yin, fire is primarily yang in nature.

Earth

Earth Feng Shui element brings the energy of nourishment, stability, support and caring patience. The earth element is primarily Yin, which is feminine and receptive.

Water

Water is extremely important in Feng Shui as it is the ancient Chinese symbol of prosperity and abundance. Glowing water symbolizes income. Water is primarily Yin.

Wind

2018 - bisazza glass and Italian smalti glass - 61cm x 63cm

Feng means “wind” and Shui translates to “water” in Chinese. This comes from an ancient poem and reflects upon how human life can be ideal if we connect and live in flow with the environment around us.

SYMBOLS

Louise draws upon archetypal symbology in this series of mosaic framed panel. Historic and multi-cultural symbols are represented in natural stone and smalti glass.
