CORPOREAL DISCARDS

Yarra Sculpture Gallery

Sunday 7 April to Sunday 28 April 2024

Corporeal Discards, was a bold site-specific work, utilising discards from Heritage Council Victoria’s archaeological dig of the Metro Tunnel Projects. The exhibition provided an inclusive, immersive experience, celebrating the site of the Hoddle Street grid and its history, while building upon Louise’s practical creative skills.

The work also included upcycled discarded oyster shells and reconfigures several of Louise’s marble and travertine, which were made during COVID 2020-2021 lockdowns.  This innovative large temporary art installation will facilitate an authentic platform for the voice of Deaf and Disabled artists.

The work’s vertical form strongly articulates accessibility, collaboration, identity, resilience, strength and connection to place and has been made possible by a significant grant from Creative Victoria in 2022. The archaeological discards reflect that we are part of the earth’s ecosystems. You can find more about Heritage Council Victoria’s archaeological dig of the Metro Tunnel Project here.
